If you cannot afford the filing fee, you can ask the Court to

Do I need a lawyer to
file for divorce?
|
|
No, you don't need to hire a lawyer for a divorce. You can
find forms and information about filing papers yourself here
, at the Oregon Judicial Department's website.
BUT, you should be very, very careful if you are going to
file for divorce without the help of a lawyer.
Most people going through a divorce are under a lot of stress
-- it can be difficult to think clearly.
People sometimes agree to everything the other party wants
"just to get it over with." A year or two down the
road, these people often regret being too hasty.
Once a divorce is final, it is very difficult to change the
distribution of property, child support, or child custody
arrangements.

My child's father and
I are not married – does he have a right to custody?
|
|
If paternity has been established, then you and your child's
father have the same rights regarding custody and child
support as a married couple.
If paternity has not been established, then only the mother
has the right to custody, but she does not have any right to
child support.
